DA Willis Ordered To Pay Big Fine For Violations In Trump Case

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis must pay $54,264 in attorney fees for violating Georgia’s Open Records Act. A judge ruled her office showed “a lack of good faith” when withholding public records requested by defense attorney Ashleigh Merchant.
Merchant, representing Trump co-defendant Michael Roman, sought documents regarding public fund allocation and Nathan Wade’s employment. Willis was ordered to supply the records within 30 days.
This ruling follows Willis’s December disqualification from prosecuting the 2020 election interference case against Trump. The state appeals court cited an “appearance of impropriety” concerning her past relationship with Wade.
Willis is actively appealing that disqualification.
