Shelley Fabares, the beloved actress and singer remembered by generations of television and movie fans, has died at the age of 82.

Fabares passed away in Los Angeles on August 22 after suffering complications from pneumonia. She was reportedly surrounded by members of her family.

She first captured America’s heart as Mary Stone on the classic sitcom The Donna Reed Show. In 1962, she also reached the top of the music charts with her unforgettable song “Johnny Angel.”

Fabares later appeared alongside Elvis Presley in three popular movies: Girl Happy, Spinout and Clambake. A new generation discovered her during the 1990s through her Emmy-nominated role as Christine Armstrong on the hit sitcom Coach.

Away from the spotlight, Fabares became an advocate for Alzheimer’s awareness and organ donation after receiving a life-saving liver transplant in 2000.

She is survived by her husband, M*A*S*H actor Mike Farrell, and her two stepchildren.
